Rules

Due to software limitations, M1A and M1C styles are used. They no NOT need to be traditionals for this competition.

This competition is NOT AHA sanctioned and open to any brewer age 21 or older.

All mailed entries must be received at the mailing location by the shipping deadline - please allow for shipping time.

All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public. Commercial entries are allowed, but will be in general circulation with all other entries and must be brewed or owned by the submitter.

The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.

The competition organizers reserve the right to combine styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the quantity and quality of entries.

The two styles of mead for this comp are dry and sweet meads which each have their own bracket, and both styles can be made with any adjucts, fruit or other additions. Generally any sweet mead should be over 1.025 and any dry mead under 1.015. This is a wide bracket and not a hard rule for brewer interpretation as mead, particularly melomels can be very high in acid or tannins that adjust the perspective of the drinker. An easydens may be used to veryify that entries are in the spirit of giving dry meads a chance to shine. A "dry" traditional submitted at 1.040 will be disqualified for referance.

Cash prizes will go to first through third place in both catagories, $75, $50, and $25 respectively. There are also drinking chalices in place of medals. Shipping outside of the US for awards will likely be of no issue, but shipping costs and restrictions will be reviewed in the event of a winner froum outside the US.

Unqualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. This diverges from BJCP styles so that some people are experianced meadmakers and judges, and others are just there who enjoy this catagory of beverage. Judging is a direct elimination bracket where the favored mead advances by majority vote.

Brewers are limited to 3 entries.

The competition committee reserves the right to combine overall style categories based on number of entries.

Bottles will not be returned to entrants.
